A New Beginning #2

The Finisher

The Finisher

When I was at school I hardly ever finished a book – even those I was required to read for my exams. I simply asked a friend how the book ended.

I am slightly ashamed to say that I continued this practice into my adulthood – even when I became a teacher. I did this until I realized that Jesus Christ finished what His Father had sent Him to do (John 19:30) and will also bring to completion what He has started in me (Philippians 1:6).

Jesus is a Finisher (Hebrews 12:2). It proved to be a revelation that not only changed my reading but also my life. Now I don’t start a book I am not prepared to finish or start a project I am not committed to complete. This means I want to finish 2023 well.

I want to be able to say with Paul, “…I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith…” (2 Timothy 4:7).

I am not saying that this is my last epistle, I am simply saying that in order to start 2024 well, I need to finish 2023 well. I want to tie up loose ends, empty my inbox, restore what is broken, and resolve what is incomplete.

Of course, I can’t do this without Jesus, but at the end of the year my focus is on the Finisher.

What about you?
